Wide application of fiber laser welding machine in automotive manufacturing

Laser welding technology not only achieves increased body strength and ensures high precision in the assembly of automotive parts, but also plays an important role in reducing body weight, improving customer comfort, and ensuring customer safety.

Laser welding has become a standard process in the automotive industry. Laser welding machines are used in the production lines of many domestic and foreign automobile manufacturers, including the roofs of the Audi A6, lf A4, and Passat from Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (DZG).

The high precision and consistent quality of fiber laser welding machines effectively increase the speed and quality of automotive welds, and automate and intelligentize the automotive body welding production line.

The trunk consists of a lid and a rear panel, which are formed to a 90-degree angle and therefore welded using a laser welding machine. Traditionally, trunk welding is performed using MIG brazing. Since trunks are usually made of galvanized sheet metal, the low heat input of MIG brazing is used to solve the problem of extensive damage to the galvanized layer.

However, the high welding speed of MlG brazing and the instability of the arc at small currents limit its efficiency and quality. Laser welding machines are mainly used for welding with complex weld shapes or drastic changes in the tangent direction of the weld seam and smooth weld surfaces. In addition, MLG brazing is difficult to form smooth welds with high contamination. The use of laser welding machines results in high welding speeds, good weld formation, consistent quality, less galvanizing burn, and little distortion.
